Joan Walter

My husband, Vern, and I returned to Central Oregon in 1977 to settle in La Pine after 3 years of living and working in South Australia.

From personal experience and interviews with friends and relatives, I've noted that quality medical care in our community is poignantly needed. Uniting all available assets that we have as a community will keep medical care here. I have been on the board since its conception and believe strongly in its mission. As a board we have been working diligently to acquire and keep the best available health care.

Joan Walter

Marian Mengel, RN (retired) moved to La Pine in 2009. She formerly worked for the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services as a program manager in the Senior and Disabilities Service Division. Having worked in many areas of health care over a 50 year career, she hopes her experiences can be an asset to the board. She believes that a strong, viable medical facility is important to the health and welfare of the community as a whole. She feels privileged to serve her community as a board member for the La Pine Community Health Center.

I was an engraver by trade and my husband was contracted to the Army Corp of Engineers for many years. We have three Children, seven Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.

We love our lives here in La Pine, and are blessed that our daughter, her husband and boys also chose to come to La Pine.

I have lived in La Pine since retiring in 2005. I have actually retired twice: 20 years in the tire business and 10 years with a big box store. Right now I do handyman work in the Bend-La Pine area on a part-time basis. I am a member of High Lakes Christian Church; my wife and I lead a Life Group at our home. I am also a member of our local Dutch Oven Group. During the summer, we like to go camping in our RV exploring Oregon and in the winter, we like to go snow shoeing. I spend what leisure time I have left playing in my shop making sawdust, working in the yard and making yard art.
